Who is James Day?

Hey there!

So you came to this page looking for all the juicy gossip? My mum told me never to put anything on a website that you wouldn't want to see on the front page of the newspaper. So here goes...

Here are some random facts about me:

I was born in Armidale, NSW and still live here. It mustn't be such a bad place after all. I really like Cadbury's Caramel Whip Chocolate. My favourite drink is called Canada Dry and is only available in canada!!!! I miss living away from home. Having a mum to do your washing and cook you healthy meals is just way too good to move out for.. Silly me.

I love the colour lime green, yet I can't wear it. I own a few lime green t shirts, and I just don't wear them ever.

I have a gorgeous girlfriend who's name is Lauren and lives in Canada right now. I'm currently trying to persuade her to move here. I wanted to put this at the top of the list, but she would probably kill me if I did. I have two of the cutest nephews ever, Christopher (7) and Mitchell (3). When Chris was younger, he thought that I was Peter Parker from Spiderman. My first memory as a child is my first steps! No one ever believes me until I can tell them in great detail how it happened. Email me if you want the full story.

Oh, and I also happen to be a photographer so I should tell you a bit about that!

My first camera was a Minolta APS camera and I had wanted the camera for about a year before my dad finally bought it for me. He was an accountant.. and wanted it to come down in price a bit before buying it for me! So once I got that camera, there was nothing stopping me. Dad was a brilliant photographer who inspired me to take better photos every time I picked up the camera. I still have that ingrained into me. He used to like photographing landscapes.. and I... didn't. I'd always get in trouble on holidays when I'd see someone interesting on the street and i'd ask if I could take a photo of them. This is where my passion for photographing people begun.

I studied photography at school, and the teacher liked my portrait photography, so he started to get me a few jobs around the place doing portraits. So, when I finished school I started working for another photographer. I was mainly doing very posed photography and I felt so constricted, so I thought i'd go out on my own and do my own thing. I was a bit cheeky and actually started doing this while I was still working for the other guy.

I also did a bit of work for the local newspaper and really got into advertising photography and of course, the people element. From there I went and did a short stint in Melbourne with a photographer named Simon James. Watching him photograph and just seeing the photographs he achieved just blew my mind. I didn't see the art in photography until I met Simon.

Since then, I've been specialising in weddings and loving every moment of it. I'm really passionate about capturing the connection between the couple and to take photos which are so full of emotion, so that when my clients look at their photos, they feel the emotion before they notice the photograph.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my site. If there's anything I can help you with, head on over to the "let's talk" section and let me know what I can do for you.

James.
