Sat - March 3, 2007Jason & LeyteceWhat a magical, fun day! I just got home from
Jason & Leytece's Wedding and I couldn't wait to have a quick squiz at some
of the shots from their wedding. I can't believe how photogenic Jason is! I was
rather pleasantly surprised.
I'm sooooooo nearly going to fall asleep so I'll need to make this quick (and i might update this text tomorrow). I know there are people out there dying to see pics so I'll do my best to upload them before I collapse. It was such a hot day and we seemed to be out in the sun an aweful lot. Expect more text here tomorrow! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tianna-one of the bridesmaids organised to photograph the guests (and me) at the reception and put together an album of polaroid photos and get the guests to comment. They got a great cheesy shot of me and I just had to put a comment in. The text reads "Sorry guys, I forgot to put film in the camera! Love & Kisses, James Day, Your sexy ass photographer". Now.. I don't go around calling myself "the sexy ass photographer", but Tianna told me to write that! I got to roll around in mud today with Jacinda & Nick & I had a ball! We couldn't decide on a venue for the photoshoot so we just drove until I got inspired. It took me about 5 mins & I came across this location. Now, just to be mean, I'm only putting up 2 photos for now. I will probably put up more rather soon. Jacinda requested that I put the photo online of her jumping in the water. I think she wants to prove to the world that I'm slowly going crazy. I think they already knew that. I really love our engagement photoshoots because we get to capture the Love and fun and friendship between a couple in such a relaxed atmosphere. Basically we create some fun moments & capture them. Also, I get the couple to do something a bit crazy so that on their wedding day nothing can be hard.... I don't usually ask people to jump in the water... but they seemed to enjoy it. Nick and Jacinda's wedding photos will be an absolute breeze. They're so at ease in front of a camara and really know how to "work it". Also, for those wondering, Simon James, one of Australia's most highly reguarded photographers has been forced to postpone his visit to JDP. We were going to be shooting a few weddings together next month. We're looking to reschudule for later in the year. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me & I really am excited to have Simon come and visit as soon as his busy schedule allows. Here are a few photos to keep you all happy. First pic is a bit of a random funny one that caught my eye. The second depicts afformentioned water incident! Peace out, keep it real and don't forget to feed the cat! JD ![]() ![]() Posted at 11:12 PM Read More Mon - February 26, 2007just text this time.. no images for once!Hey y'all
I hope you've been enjoying all the photos that have been going up. There will be 3 more engagement shoots going up in the very near future. I think I might just ramble on for a bit and expect that no one will probably read this. The last week has been huge for bookings and enquiries. It seems that everyone that is enquiring is booking which is really refreshing to know that people are liking what we are offering. I'm getting super excited about Lauren's visit. It's only 1 month away. I wish it was sooner though. If any of you have any good ideas of what I can show Lauren while she is in the New England Region, then let me know! Also, some other cool info is that this month we have had 171868 page views using up 4.29gb of bandwidth. Just a random fact. I get rather obsessed with checking to see the stats on the site. One of the interesting things that I can look at is what people search in Google to find me. Some of the one's which I thought were worth mentioning are "wacky poses" "karaokes churches canadá" "all time romance favourite" "jim day photo" "jimmy james photographer". I was hoping to see more of "james is the coolest photographer ever I want him so bad to shoot my wedding" but.. who knows. Maybe it will happen now that i've written that in my blog. Oh, other exciting news, I got my hair cut. Which one you ask. Prizes for those who can pick the correct hair that got cut! Tonight I felt like doing something random for some friends.. so I went to Coles, Bought a heap of packet mixes and made 4 batches of muffins and went and delivered them to friends. Don't expect that every week guys! Ok, I promise you the next blog post will be full of photos and less of me talking! Thanks for reading. G'Night. I think the award for one of the
cutest bride's in history has to go to Kristie. Just as the sun shone, so did
Kristie. She looked amazing.
There was one bridesmaid and one groomsmen. The "best chick" was Christine Haydon, and the best man was Roger Munday. I really felt that they both did such an amazing job of caring for the bride and groom. Also, a big thank you to Christine's husband Mark who was the MC & simply the coolest MC yet! He helped me round up all the family and was just always concerned as to whether he could do something to help. What a great bloke! Also, it was really good to see one of my favourite Bride & Groom's - Kristie and Ben Saxby. Kristie Sky and Kristie Saxby work together. Also, I spotted Jacinda (one of my future bride's-April 28 07) who I think was sticky beaking to see me in action. Caught you!!!! Everyone was worried about the weather. I had a sense of calm about it.. I think that's just me in general really. I knew that no matter what, they were getting married and that's all that mattered. The weather played along nicely though. It stopped raining at just the right times. It rained when It didn't matter and the sun shone as soon in our location shoot right on queue. The ceremony & reception both took place at Boolominbah @ the UNE. The company was delightful, the food was scumptious and it was another amazing photoshoot for us! 90% of the photos that we took weren't posed. These are the moments that are so special.. the natural ones. Derek really surprised me too. He was more relaxed today than on previous meetings with him. He was really good to photograph and I got to the end of the shoot and was so grateful to both of them for making my job such a breeze. Musical Entertainment was provided by Steven Thorniecroft on the guitar during the ceremony and then DJ Rip entertained everyone as they danced. I've just picked out a few random photos for the world to admire.. before I head off to bed... ahh soooooo tired. G'night folks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted at 11:24 PM Read More Tue - February 20, 2007Phil & Amy's Engagement ShootI photographed Amy's work mate Kerri-Lynn

Phil & Amy are an amazing fun couple. I think Phil would have to be one of
the easiest guys to work with ever! Amy is just delightful & I know she will
be a super hot bride.
Phil and Amy were good enough to travel to me in Armidale for the shoot & then it started raining. I think we did pretty well considering! the 26th of March this year!
Spread the word. Apologies to clients: I probably won't be super productive during this time.. but Iuckily for you I plan to get everything done before this time. Also my apologies go to all my friends at the moment who hear nothing but Lauren Lauren Lauren. & Welcome to the world of the internet Mum and Murray! I've recently taught mum and my new step dad to use the internet and they tell me that they usually read the blog and mum also tells me the photos that she doesn't like. Gee thanks mum! So mum also learnt how to email and has even sent Lauren an email. She wanted to end it with "love from your future mum in law", Not cool mum... not cool. Oh, and Alex's darling Danika was shocked before when I said that Lauren was "delightful in every way". Apparently I usually just say that she's hot or something. I probably shouldn't have admitted to that so publicly but Lauren knows that I just adore her. On a completely separate note: It will be in your best interest to check out the Blog over the next 2 weeks rather regularly. I can't say too much. But trust me.. it will be worth it! Yep.. another pic of Lauren & I together.. I know you love it! As promised, here are pictures of Jacob & Holly's engagement shoot. One of my darling friends Kaitlyn told these guys about me and showed them one of our sample albums and they decided that they would choose us as their wedding photographers for their wedding. Good choice team! These guys got some photos done at Starshots last week so they were so used to being photographed that It made my job sooooo easy. They took me out to the wedding venue which is this gorgeous chapel with rainforest views behind them looking through the big glass wall. WOW! The photos that we took on saturday were taken at something called the Skillion @ Terrigal. It's a rather picturesque place which I will definitely be taking Lauren to! Apparently Jacob likes the effect where we can focus in on the subject and blur everything out. Yeah, you know what.. So do I! that's why I shoot like that. For the photographers that read this blog, do yourself a favour and buy yourselves an 85mm f1.2 lens so that you can do it too. Spend the extra money on this lens so you can wow your clients. It's worth it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted at 08:59 PM Read More Luna Park Pix!Well the first couple to contact me were Sarah
and James from Sydney who were very keen to be a part of the luna park shoot. My
apologies to all the couples that missed out. We didn't end up spending as long
as I imagined at Luna Park as we decided to head over to the Rocks area and Old
Sydney Town.
I think Sarah and James would have to be the perfect couple for this shoot as It was a bit crazy and they definitely both had a bit of crazy in them which is just how I like it! Also, as everyone is asking what the heck was I doing in Sydney-here's a running sheet for you. Wednesday morning: I drove to tamworth to meet some clients then went on to Muswellbrook where I met up with Kelly Munce who is a photographer from Muswellbrook who is really doing some great work and is branching out into an area which hasn't been done much before... ecpecially around Muswellbrook. Check out her website @ www.kellymuncephotography.com & you'll see what I mean. I then went to stay in Sydney with my good friend Joe Hardy and his brand new wife Carly. They got married in Bowral last year. I was meant to be a guest but ended up turning into the photographer when the hired pro had to leave! I'm so glad I could do it for them though. Joe said after that event that they owed me a home cooked meal. So on the wednesday night I got my home cooked meal at last! I also got a bed for 3 nights. Thursday: I went to an Adobe Photoshop Lightroom seminar. Basically it's some new software which is going to speed up my work flow and help me get my clients their images faster. That's a good thing trust me! Thursday night I went out for a nice meal at Doyle's restaurant on circular quay but the awesome view that you can get from there was blocked because a cruise liner was in the way :-( But the company was great-Ryan, Mitch and Matt. Thanks for a fun night out guys. Friday: Went dream shopping in David Jones and looked at all the furniture there. I have a crazy obsession for looking at nice furtniture. If anyone wants to buy me a new lounge for the studio let me know & I'll tell you all about the $7500 two seater that I saw there. Friday night: Hah. For a second there I couldnt remember what happened friday night, but dah it was the luna park shoot. Saturday Morning: Off to Terrigal Beach area for an Engagement Shoot with Jacob and Holly who are getting married later in the year @ Terrigal with me as the photog! Oh how I love beach weddings. Saturday day: Drove home. Saturday late arvo: Photographed an engagement session for Phil and Amy who are a gorgeous young couple who are getting married in Moree next month. Saturday night: Was my good friend Anna's 21st birthday party. We went out to the Red Grapevine for a great meal and good company. And now i'm back.. & I have so much work to do. Lucky I enjoy my work. Enjoy the pics and there will be shots of the 2 other engagement sessions going up asap! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is so him... Posted at 08:50 AM Read More Sun - February 11, 2007MY favourite wedding photos of all time.Alot of discussion goes on with members of the
photographers clan as to what makes a priceless
photograph.
I generally try and simplify it by saying the expression and the moment & what memories that picture can bring back for you. I think that's a reasonable ultra simplified summary of what makes a great wedding picture. Some believe that it's how accurate you can make the colours look and how sharp an image is.. but I think that is utter crap. I know that i'm going to get hate mail for saying this.. but i'll deal with it. I think one of the reasons why I love alot of the shots that I do is because of the fact that i'm an over the top romantic. I'm the guy who struggles to hold back tears in a chick flick..who sniffs while hearing of a feel good story.. and definitely one that can't let a day go by without telling the one I love that I in fact Love her more than she could ever know. Romance is something I love to capture on a wedding day. I also link Romance to Fun, so you'll notice that I really look for the fun moments as well.. I'd like to share with you all a very verbose outline of some of my favourite wedding photos and why I just adore them. example 1: Paula & Kesha. The romance shared between these guys is just out of this world. You would never see a cuter couple than these two. Those smiles are real....they are smiling because of the love that they share for each other and the fact that they could express that by committing to each other in a marriage relationship. I love the closeness in the shot. I love the fact that they're above me.. looking down on me.. because trust me.. they were on a real high this day. ![]() Katie & Andrew: You can see in Katie's eyes just how excited she is to be married. I love the fact that they're holding each other.. ![]() This one should be obvious- Kesha's Groomsmen. What I love about this photo is.. arggh.. so many things.. where do I start? Ok.. I love that Joe (far left) is looking like a complete over the top nerd which is what he is....sorry joe.. Kesha in the middle is looking pretty goofy.. and once again...that's him. He's so cheesy.. and I think his body language reflects that darn well. On the right of Kesha you've got Adam who is actually one of my fantastic flatmates. There's this really ugly face that Adam, Alex and Myself pull and Adam is doing a toned down rendition of that.. so it makes me think of that... and don't get me started on the other boys.. but damn they're all a cool bunch! ![]() You need to know that these boys are all in the car industry..and the Groom is kinda high up @ Hardmans of Armidale. Some rather rich guy..(his name escapes me) leant us this super expensive car for the day...and look what happens! Priceless. Ok, so this was staged.. but we can pretend it actually happened. ![]() Ok, so 30 seconds after this.. Jackie is going to walk down the aisle ready to be married.. Can you imagine what's going through her head. Off to the right is Jackie's Bridesmaids who are I think equally as nervous and rather worried about sinking into the grass in their high heals! ![]() Just one of those times when it's a case of Right Place.. Right Time... damn fine camera.. and a few photographic skills under the belt... ![]() Bianka & Anthony-Wow what a wedding... we're talking super glam! This wedding was up at the Gold Coast and I got to stay in a swish resort and everything! WOOOHOOO!!! Anthony's facial expression is so strong that it's almost painful. Bianka is just naturally gorgeous and knows exactly what expression will look best in a photo at every moment. I dont recall any images which Bianka looked anything less than absolutely incredible! I have this print on my wall in the studio.. and some people ask me why I chose it for the wall. My reasons are that 1. I had the best time on the day. 2. I had the bride from my first ever wedding as a bridemaid at this wedding. 3. Bianka isn't that difficult on the eye... 4. I had one of my best mates Alex assisting me which made the day awesome fun. 5. Beach shoot. AWWW YEAH! I have a few coastal weddings this year.. and damn I can't wait! ![]() Paula & Kesha again- Yeah I know.. That's 3 photos from their wedding... ahh i'm sorry.. kinda. This wedding was probably the stand out of all weddings i've ever photographed as I got to photograph the wedding of some of the closest people to me. On the left, You can see Kesha who is keeping an eye on his new wife as she shares a moment with her gorgeous mum Evie who I caught crying on many occasions....and off to the right there's Adam again. Oh, and by the way.. feel free to email adam and remind him to clean up his crumbs after he makes toast.. and to turn off his fan in his room of a morning (adam.j.simpkins@gmail.com) I'm not saying i'm perfect.. apparently I leave the cereal out some mornings.. apart from that.. You could say that I was perfect.. ![]() Well there you have it folks.. If I can talk this much about images of weddings where i'm basically a bystander.. then what can these images mean to the couples and the families. Sometimes when I wonder what the heck I'm doing at a wedding and have lost focus.. all I have to do is remind myself that these images are perhaps some of the most precious photos that will ever be taken for them. Who knows what will happen tomorrow.. who we might lose.. who we might never see again.. This seems like a bit of a pointless plug because you guys know it already.. but when I shoot a wedding I shoot with these things in mind.. I really don't want to miss those special moments which will be treasured by generations to come.. I shoot the wedding the same way I'd want my own wedding photographed. I want the unmatched romance, the fun, the excitement.. and I want it done in a way which I know will add to the day! Ahh I love my job.. It's seriously the best. p.s. I really love it when people just adore my work. This week i've been really blessed with lots of comments that i've been given about my work but there's one that I particularly loved.. now if this was you that left this msg...please email me and let me know who you are so I can thank you personally because it really made my day! It was so simple.. yet so nice... so thank you! "Hi! I just thought I'd finally comment, I came across you while googling for something else..
